I am a private client lawyer with more than 12 years’ experience advising high net worth individuals and families from the UK and abroad on succession, estate planning and the associated UK taxes.

I have worked with some of the country’s oldest families with estates, businesses and trust structures dating back multiple generations and hundreds of years but also with first generation wealth looking forward to the future.  I am a trustee of multiple family trusts in both my personal and professional capacity as well as being a director of Cripps Trust Corporation and a director of companies connected with my trusteeships and clients’ businesses.

Having specialised in advising on estate planning and trust law from early in my career I have been lucky to work with many complex trust and family arrangements rooted in history.  This exposure has provided me with a privileged insight into the end result of past attempts to preserve not only wealth but also a wider legacy.  These lessons from the past give me valuable insight when working with newly generated wealth and the blank canvas this provides in terms of options and attitudes is always exciting.

The world is an increasingly small place and most families, particularly those with wealth, have some connection with another jurisdiction.  I advise many clients on succession and UK tax who are not domiciled in the UK but are either resident here or have property or business interests in the UK, particularly those from the US, Europe and the Middle East.  I have therefore built up close ties with advisers in these areas and am well versed in the pitfalls of cross jurisdictional planning.

In my career, the law and times have changed substantially and it is rare that a trust structure alone is all that is required. Often, a blending of legal expertise from the corporate, property and private client worlds helps to ensure that clients get the benefit of all angles and all options delivered as one package.
